International Conference on Safe Transport Infrastructure
The 6th annual international conference on Safe Transport Infrastructure was held on 15th and 16th November 2011.

During the days of 15th and 16th November 2011, the 6th annual international conference on Safe Transport Infrastructure, regularly held by the company CityPlan, took place in the congress hall of the Masaryk Institute of the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT).
This year was held again under the patronage of representatives of major national and international institutions in the field of transport infrastructure, headed by the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic. Personal patronage was taken over by the former Minister of Transport of the Czech Republic, the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Czech Republic, the first Deputy Mayor of the capital city of Prague, the Senator and Director of the Medical Emergency Service of the capital city of Prague (ZZSHMP), the Director of Transport Police of the Police Presidium of the Czech Republic (PPČR), the President of the Central Moto-Club of the Czech Republic, the Chairman of the Czech Road Society and the Chairman of the European Road Assessment Programme (EuroRAP).
Approximately 150 participants from the professional public heard, in the course of two days, total of 25 lectures presenting results of research tasks from the field of road safety. Experience and knowledge were presented also by representatives of units of the Integrated Rescue System and non-profit organizations. For the first time, separate contributions on influence of road surface, products for the road infrastructure and specificities of tram traffic were presented. Representatives of the Ministry of Transport introduced results of implementing the European directive on safety management into the Czech legislation. Another important topic discussed at the Conference was safety of motorbike riders and cyclists. The Conference fulfilled its domain of being an international event by welcoming experts from the Netherlands and Germany with their interesting contributions.
This year, the Conference enjoyed great media interest. The official press conference was held for the first time, presenting results of implementing the European programme for road assessment EuroRAP, which were achieved in the last 5 years - the latest risk map of the Czech Republic for the years 2008 – 2010 was released, as well as the first sample project of star assessment of EuroRAP. Journalists had a chance to see the inspection vehicle used for road inspections. The record of this press conference was broadcasted by the Czech Television, articles were published by the most visited internet portals – novinky.cz, iDNES.cz, aktualne.cz and Mladá Fronta. Interviews were provided by representatives of the Central Moto-Club of the Czech Republic and the company CityPlan also to reporters of radio stations.
The Conference presented several critical contributions targeted at comparing the position of the Czech Republic in the field of road safety with other countries of the EU 27 and demanding increase of consistency in removal of serious safety deficits causing tragic consequences of road accidents, such as skid road properties, solid obstacles, billboards and other. The organizers were very pleased by the constant interest in the Conference and questions related to safety of road infrastructure and look forward to meeting all the participants again next year!
