The company CityPlan was engaged in this international project as one of its 23 partners. The main tasks of the company included expert analyses and surveys in the field of road infrastructure and road freight transport. Furthermore, CityPLan participated on the analysis of logistics environment and collection and processing of data for the Czech Republic. Characteristics of the project:
The basic aim of the project was to identify and analyse optimal management of intermodal corridors for movement of goods among the ports of the Adriatic and the Baltic Sea with relations to horizontal goods flows between East – West, and, based on the results, to formulate guidelines and recommendations for politics on the regional and national level responsible for implementation of transport policies and policies for regional development, in order to achieve consistence of development plans of relevant regions with knowledge revealed within the project and defined through final deployment of the A-B Landbridge corridors. The identified corridors should contribute to linking these regions with global markets, improve their access to the Baltic Sea or the Adriatic Sea and their interconnection, and thereby they will stimulate socio-economic development in Central Europe. In addition to increased accessibility of the territory of A-B Landbridge, the project is aimed at optimising local logistic services through appropriate deployment of public logistics centers, terminals for combined transport and other subsequent distribution centers in order to develop intermodal transport as a sustainable mode of freight transport. Given the transnational character of the project, further emphasis was put on efficient linking to institutions of the European Union, in particular authorities of the European Commission (DG REGIO and DG TREN). The most important aspect of this objective was acquisition of reasoning documentation for justification of placing these selected transport links on the list of priority projects of the network TEN-T, which are co-financed from the community programme of the European Union, and which are prioritised also in selection of projects financed from the EU Cohesion Fund. The need of interconnecting North and South of Europe is currently more urgent, because attention of relevant actors is traditionally focused on development of the West – East connection between the "old" and "new" Member States of the European Union and Russia
