Synopsis of the project The issue of logistics currently receives high level of attention. Logistics should ensure reduction of costs in production, increase of supply speed, reduction of transport costs, etc. According to the processor, logistics can be applied also in the field of public transport services. Application of logistics in the field of transport serviceability is addressed in the project of science and research no. 802/104/140 "Application of logistics approaches in urban agglomerations", which was processed 4 years ago. In the course of the project, the Czech Republic entered EU and powers of regions have been progressively refined (still in progress). These facts resulted in subsequent continuous changes of the project assignment. The target territory shifted from an urban agglomeration to a city and its region. Individual tasks of the project have been, according to the plan, submitted gradually. Individual tasks: 1. Application of logistic principles in public transport in the intermodal form on the city territory and its surroundings (January 2002) 2. Overview of telematics (ITS) applicable in the field of city logistics and intermodal passenger transport (January 2004) 3. Legal impact of proposed solutions on the legislation of the Czech Republic and EU (January 2004) 4. Evaluation of known models of optimal transport services in a territory and recommended solutions (January 2005) 5. Proposal for a solution to the complex transport servicing the territory with the support of logistics (January 2003) 6. Logistics reengineering of transport services and multimodal integrated services (January 2005) 7. Verification of demonstration projects implemented in European cities of various size categories (January 2005) 8. Information publication of model examples, successful solutions and best practices in the field of logistics and ITS (December 2003) called "City and Transport on the Verge of the 3rd Millennium", distributed since 11/2004 9. Organization of seminars at the central, regional and municipal level (2004) 10. Processing information collection from conferences focused on research, development and practical implementation of the systems (January 2005) The tasks 1 and 5 contain a theoretical base for particular solutions of the final tasks, and an extensive research of technical literature collected by the processor. The key parts of the entire solution are the tasks 3 and 4. The analysis of legislation contained in the task 3 was utilised also for preparation of the proposal of legislative intent "On Public Transport". The task 4 covers practical procedures for optimisation of transport serviceability and implementation of integrated transport systems (IDS), including recommendations for tariff systems and passenger handling. The task 4 further contains model solutions applied in the field of optimization of transport services and IDS application. Outputs of the project 802/104/140 constitute an optimal tool suitable for personnel engaged in transport services.
