CZECH TRANSPORT STRUCTURE OF THE YEAR 2009
On 25TH April 2010, results of the annual national competition on the best transport structure and technology of the year were concluded. During the gala evening held in the Bethlehem Chapel with participation of the Minister of Transport of the Czech Republic Gustav Slamečka, titles and other awards were handed over to projects selected by a jury with the Chairman Prof. Ing. Petr Moos CSc., Vice-Chancellor for Development of the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT). The jury selected winners from the total of 43 projects registered into 5 competition categories. On 19.5.2010, the structure nominated by the jury in this year of the competition was the Roundabout on the Road I/16 in Mělník, of which the General Designer was the company CityPlan. This nomination was in the category C (structures under 100 million CZK). CityPlan was participating in this project from the initial study, which resulted in changes of the territorial plan, to realisation documentation and designer's supervision. The structure acquired the Awarded of the Chancellor of Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT).
Jury Verdict: The roundabout is located in very space-limited conditions between the bridges over the river Elbe and the bio-corridor of Pšov. Nonetheless, it enables fully functional and secure connection. The way of obtaining necessary space by utilising support walls designed as reinforced embankment with non-solid coating is original. The roundabout significantly contributes to increase of security on the heavily burdened road.
