The project was processed for the Independent Energy Commission (NEK), as a basis for assessment of energy needs of the Czech Republic in the long term. The work included quantification of the energy balance and environmental impacts throughout the life-cycle of all fuels and energy processes actually usable in the Czech Republic for production of electricity, heat and transport, and assessment of infrastructure demands in terms of safe supply of fuels and energy. The studies have been also used for the proposal of the amendment of the State Energy Concept. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was carried out for technologies currently or in the near future utilised in the Czech Republic for production of electricity using fossil or nuclear fuels and renewable resources. Direct and indirect effects of the entire analysed procedure were calculated, including effects of production and processing of major required materials of the relevant technology and transport processes. Quantitatively assessment was carried out for exploitation of natural resources and pollution, including greenhouse gases.
