Increasing resilience of the distribution system against impacts of long-term failures of the distribution system of the Czech Republic in order to enhance safety of population – the project RESPO, within the framework of the research project 2A-1TP1/065 of the programme "Permanent Prosperity" of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The project RESPO (RESilient POwer) belongs to the group of measures aimed at enhancing reliability of operation of the electricity system, increasing safety of population and reducing economic impacts. The aim is to maintain continuity of power supply during emergencies of the electricity grid. It deals with pro-active preventive measures reducing primary damages in production resulting from its non-operation or termination due to energy failures, and reducing secondary damages of industrial plants and other consumers.
During failures of power supply from the national grid, the distribution system will be able to operate in the island mode supplied from local sources of electricity (mainly heating plants) for the entire period required to restore operation of the supply grid. This in the affected area enables to maintain operation of specific enterprises and services (in particular the critical infrastructure), but also basic appliances of homes, which would be otherwise immersed in darkness.
